Hyderabad: As against the earlier schedule of commencing Fertilizer Corporation of India’s (FCI) plant at Ramagundam in Peddapalli district, in 2018, the PSU sick unit is expected to be operational in 2019. The FCI unit was closed down in March 1999.
The works on the Ramagundam fertiliser plant in Telangana are in progress at a brisk pace and it will be commissioned in 2019, Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar said. He also said that the government is investing around Rs5,500 crore in the plant which would generate over 3,000 employment opportunities.
“The construction of Ramagundam fertiliser plant is time-bound. I am also going to visit the plant site within next month,” Kumar told reporters here. The shortage of funds has already delayed the revival of the plant by over six months. Moreover, yet to be started works on bringing Yellampalli water, laying HT power lines and gas pipeline have further slowed down the project, according to the people in the know.
Adding to this, uncertainty over local recruitment at the new plant is looming large over the industrial belt. “Anytime in 2019, we will commission the plant,” the minister said. We’re investing to the extent of Rs 5,500 crore in the plant and it would generate more than 3,000 jobs,” he said.
