Hyderabad: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has highlighted the advantages of Telangana for the aviation industry growth as Hyderabad is home to several defence and research organisations. Government, industry and academic institutions should work together to make India a self-reliant in defence, said defence experts.
A report on ‘Connecting the Dots in Telangana’s Defence and Aerospace Sector: Special focus on Defence Electronics,’ was released at one-day conclave on aviation industry organised by CII here on Thursday.
The report highlighted several strengths of Telangana’s defence and aerospace ecosystem and offered recommendations to the State government that could help in filling the existing gaps in the ecosystem.
In his special address, Lt Gen Subrata Saha, UYSM, YSM, VSM, former deputy chief of army staff (P&S), Indian Army and Principal Advisor, CII, opined that there is an immense need for defence industrial planning, where the industry and academia can contribute very effectively.
V Rajanna, Chairman, CII Telangana & Vice-President & Regional Head, Global Head – Technology Business Centre, Tata Consultancy Services, opined that given the pace of growth in the sector and in order to optimize their capabilities, the state’s MSMEs expect a robust support system, identification of the key pain points and getting relevant assistance.
“Telangana is targeting a share of 15-20 per cent market share in the aerospace and defence sector in India. Establishing aerospace parks coupled with timely clearances of proposals via the TSiPASS. One such area that requires attention is in the testing of products. The cost of testing of the products is often a multiple of the cost of materials and manufacturing the same,” said Rajanna.
