Hyderabad: As a mark of growing preference for green residential units, as many as 32 real estate projects from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been registered with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) on Thursday. Developers from both the Telugu states responded positively to a call given by the Hyderabad Chapter of IGBC to take part in its green building movement as part of the World Green Building Week 2018, and got their project enrolled with the council at a meeting organised by the council.
“A total of 32 real estate projects, amounting to about 18 million sq ft of green building footprint registered for IGBC green building rating system. This is in addition to over 300 projects, totalling over 130 million sq ft that are already adopting IGBC green building standards in Telangana,” said C Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC Hyderabad Chapter.
Terming these group registrations as a landmark achievement in the annals of green building movement in India, C Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC Hyderabad Chapter, underlined that the State of Telangana in general and Hyderabad in particular had always been in the forefront in adopting and promoting green building practices and approaches which were ecologically superior and economically viable. “This clearly reflects the passion and commitment of the building community in Hyderabad to make a difference to Planet Earth”, he said.
He went on to add: “We are sure, this milestone will encourage other developers/ builders in the country tread the same green path.” Green homes are more marketable and makes good business sense, underlined Reddy. The incremental cost of a green home has come down to about two to three per cent over conventional building. The need of the hour is to design and construct green homes and communicate the benefits of a green home to the buyer. Going the green way is good to Earth and, also to economy, he said.
S Srinivas, Principal Adviser, CII- Godrej GBC, said that IGBC facilitated India in becoming the second country in the world in terms of largest registered green building footprint. IGBC aspires that the place we live, work, study, play, commute will all go the green way and, in the process, facilitate in building a greener and healthier India, he added.
