I’m afraid of experimenting. Chiru garu is actively involved with politics now. If indeed I’m given the mantle to direct his next project, I will be more than happy to oblige to it.

Tollywood will be on the experimental path in just two years, says director VV Vinayak who is working on a big budget movie to launch producer Bellamkonda Suresh’s son Sai Srinivas this year

For the first time in his 13-year long illustrious career, director VV Vinayak has been away for too long from the arc lights. His last release ‘Naayak’ released in Sankranthi this year. However, the director ace says that it wasn’t intentional and that he’s just playing it extra safe in launching his producer friend’s (Bellamkonda Suresh) son Sai Srinivas. “We launched the film five months ago, but I wasn’t satisfied with the script. When I finally endorsed two subjects, Suresh was not pleased with them. Our association goes a long way. Though I was a first timer, he gave me all the liberty to direct ‘Aadhi’ the way I envisioned. So I have that added responsibility to ensure that Sai is projected in a way that cements his place in the industry. It took us time to freeze on one particular subject and finally we are going to start shooting from October 20,” he says.
Celebrating his birthday today in Basara, the director says the untitled project will have his signature elements. “It will be a high-budget entertainer with equal doses of comedy and action. It’s the story of a guy who is set to achieve something in his life. Actress Samantha and composer Devi Sri Prasad are already on board for the film.” One who loves all genres and a fan of Mani Ratnam, he says that Tollywood will be on the experimental path in just two years. “Some young filmmakers have made their way into the industry and I see the industry moving forward with concept-oriented films within a short span of time. I’ve been to Chennai recently and was surprised to see small films posters dominating the stars posters. However, I’m afraid to experiment because I feel the stakes are too high in my films.”
With his name having done the rounds on the political front, he admits that
his family has political linkages. “I have no interest in politics as of now and I don’t see myself campaigning too,” he clears the air.
One of the top most directors of Tollywood who carries home a hefty remuneration, he shares that he is quite contended with his career till now. “I never planned anything or though I would be a filmmaker. I’m grateful to God for what he has given me till now.”
Given an opportunity, is he ready to direct Megastar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi for his 150th film? “Chiru garu is actively involved with politics now. If indeed I’m given the mantle to direct his next project, I will be more than happy to oblige to it,” he informs, adding, “I plan to direct a love story with newcomers in 2014.”
He is also keen to direct NTR, who he has directed for ‘Aadhi’, ‘Samba’, and ‘Adhurs’, next year. “He expressed his interest to make ‘Adhurs 2’. If we crack the idea, we will go on floors,” he concludes on a high note.
