Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, the doyen of Telugu cinema breathed his last in the early hours of Wednesday in Hyderabad.



Fondly called as ANR by colleagues in the film fraternity, the legendary actor had been battling cancer for some time now.


Only recently after news of his illness surfaced, the senior actor had held a press meet saying he was indeed a cancer patient but coping very well. This news had come as solace to his fans to even know that the actor was alive and kicking.


However, his sudden demise this morning has shocked not only the film fraternity but also his fans. ANR, who had an acting career spanning 75 years was seen in more than 240 movies. Besides Telugu, he had also worked in several Tamil films. He also won the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award.


His death has left a big vacuum in the film industry. Perhaps no other actor can match ANR's versatility and talent. May his soul rest in peace.
