Renowned Tamil comedian Vadivelu is drawing flak from the Telugu community of late and it is possible that political intervention could lead to the ban of the film.
Directed by Yuvaraj Dhayalan, ‘Jagajala Pujabala Tenaliraman’ is said to be a historic comedy film with Vadivelu appearing in dual roles. In the past, the actor had starred in another historical drama ‘Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikesi’ which did well at the box office.
Vadivelu will be seen in playing both Krishna Devaraya and Tenali Ramakrishna, two men who are revered and respected by the Telugu community, and we hear that they have been shown in poor light. Since both the characters were portrayed by Vadivelu, they have reportedly received a comical touch, and people are going to the extent of saying that they have been portrayed as “clowns”.
“This will hurt the feelings and sentiments of millions of Telugu people across the world,” says K Jagadeswara Reddy, President, Tamil Nadu Telugu Yuvasakthi. “We are going to take this matter to the Government of Tamil Nadu which surely has respect for them. All Telugu organizations have decided to become united and fight this cause,” he added.
When quizzed about the controversy, Rangarajan, Executive Director of the production house said, "It’s not our intention to hurt the feelings of anyone. Argument against the film is nothing but a figment of imagination.” While director Yuvaraj and Vadivelu evaded all questions saying that the story has nothing to do with the history of Krishna Devaraya, the promos clearly indicates the characters to have shades of the witty Tenali Rama and Krishna Devaraya.
Looks like the film is going to face serious issues during the release as Telugu organizations are bent upon halting the release and resorting to legal battle.
‘Jagajala Pujabala Tenaliraman’ is one of the most awaited films of 2014. Expectations are high as the flick marks the return of ace comedian Vadivelu to the Tamil film industry after a gap of two years during which he had a brief stint in politics.
The film also stars Meenaxi Dixit, Radha Ravi and Manobala among others in pivotal roles. The film which has music composed by Imman, has been produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram, Kalpathi S Ganesh, Kalpathi S Suresh under the AGS Entertainment banner.The film is set to release this summer.
