Character actors play a very important role in Tollywood – the rise of character artists has been tremendous the last decade, with some prominent names ruling the circle with their versatility and talent. One such name that is making waves now in the industry is Rao Ramesh.
Rao Ramesh was raised in Chennai, though born in Srikakulam. He had a profound fixation in still photography for which he was willing to drop out from his college. Ramesh was constantly seen studying books on photography at some reputed libraries.
Son of a celebrated actor Late Rao Gopal Rao, Ramesh did not see this day easy. Passionate about photography from the very early days, Rao Ramesh started very modest from the start. He never flaunted his father’s name as a brand while doing so. After many futile attempts landing projects in photography. Rao Ramesh made an entry into small screen as an actor. Rao Ramesh acted in few popular serials like Pavithra Bandham, Kalavari Kodalu etc., and this went on for close to five years.
After playing some forgettable roles in Seema Simham and Okkadunnadu, his huge turnaround came with the film Kotha Bangaru Lokam, where Rao played the role of a lecturer. This Srikanth Addala directorial saw him perform to his fullest, fetching accolades from everywhere. This later followed with critically acclaimed films like Gamyam and commercial blockbusters like Kick, Magadheera,Leader, Khaleja, Mirapakay, Pilla Zamindar, Gabbar Singh, Julai, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu and lately, the super duper commercial entertainer Attarintiki Daredi.
Presently, Rao Ramesh stands among the top character artists in Telugu Cinema. His personality, diction, ability to portray any kind of role has earned him brownie points to score well with big tickets.
The audience expects qualitative acting and intense actors like Rao Ramesh have proved that one need not be in the lead role to grab that coveted screen presence. The transition of characterization on the Telugu celluloid has indeed come a long way and Tollywood sure feels proud flaunting the likes of Rao Ramesh in its many shimmering stars.
