Swathi Deekshith: A Telugu at heartIt all began when she won the title of a talent show - ‘Andamaina Bhamalu’ by Tammareddy Bharadwaj. She made her acting debut in ‘Tor Naam’ (2012), a Bengali remake of Telugu film ‘Kotha Bangaru Lokam’, and then followed a string of offers and finally Swathi Deekshith landed a crucial role in Ram Gopal Varma (RGV)’s film ‘Patta Pagalu’ one day! “‘Patta Pagalu’ is the best thing that has happened in my life. When I was offered the role, I was tense, but RGV made me feel comfortable,” says Swathi about her experience of working with the maverick director. She adds, “RGV gives freedom to his actors and not at all a hard task master like he is believed to be. He knows what he wants and has clarity about everything he does.”

For the actress, this isn’t her first acting stint though, and she was earlier seen in the film ‘Break Up’. “RGV first saw me in the trailer of this film, and that’s when he gave me a call,” she tells us. The actress will be seen alongside Rajasekhar in the film. “There was no awkwardness acting with him as his daughter is my friend and I was familiar with him”. So what are the other films that are lined up for her? “I am one of the leads in Allari Naresh’s next film ‘Jump Jilani’. The experience was fun and since I already knew Naresh, it made things all the more easier,” she says. The film has completed 90 per cent of its shoot and only a song sequence is pending for which Swathi is flying to Bangalore soon. Her other upcoming release is the film ‘Ladies & Gentlemen’.

A Maharashtrian settled in Hyderabad, she is not just fluent in Telugu, but is also a Telugu girl at heart. The girl who is chirpy and isn’t hesitant to talk about every aspect of her career says she is happy with her choice of roles so far. “I have done different kind of roles in all films that I worked in so far. I have been the cute girl, the one in a horror film and then there is the comedy. I don’t want to be typecast! I want scripts that give me importance,” she says. Interestingly Swathi was keen on a career in music, but when acting came her way, she decided to give it a try. She says, “There are many girls who come from other towns in search of opportunities. So when I was really given the chance I didn’t want to say no. I thought I should venture into this.”
