He has become a sensation of sorts. It’s neither due to his looks nor due to his acting prowess. The trailer of his debut film ‘Hrudaya Kaleyam’ managed to pack a punch and generated a great deal of buzz. And then his unconventional looks paired with oodles of confidence got many mouths talking and a lot of hands Googling! But the biggest moment of glory for Sampoornesh Babu came when ‘Hrudaya Kaleyam’, a spoof comedy, minted Rs 3.9 crore worldwide in its opening weekend and was declared an instant hit.

“Full happy,” he exclaims when asked what the entire hullabaloo around him, after the success of the film, feels like. For a film which has no big names associated to it, it wouldn’t be exaggeration to say the film has become a phenomenal success. But Sampoo, as he is fondly called, tells us that it came as a shock, “I knew the film would be a hit, but something like this, to this extent… never expected.”

The most striking thing about Sampoo is definitely his confidence – something many debutantes do not possess – and he says the reason for that is Pawan Kalyan, “There is confidence in everything he does. When he walks, when he talks… in fact his attitude too. I like that and I felt I should be like him and that’s why I developed a similar attitude.”

Sampoo is surely an inspiration to many of those who refrain from making attempts due to their unconventional looks. It’s sad that nearly 30 girls rejected the chance to star opposite him in the film. While it’s possible that they may be repenting at this very moment, Sampoo is on cloud nine due to his newfound glory.

When quizzed as to who his dream leading lady would be, he tells us that he “would like to work with any actress who my director feels suits the character”.

Sampoo will soon be seen in a cameo in Allu Sirish’s film, ‘Kottha Janta’. And then there is another film with Steven Shankar again, titled ‘Kobbari Matta’. Interestingly Sampoo plays a triple role in the film – Pedda Rayudu, Papa Rayudu and Androidu! The role of Pedda Rayudu, as seen in the trailer, reminds us of Mohan Babu in the eponymous film! “It’s great to be portraying him because he is my favourite actor,” says Sampoo.

Saying that ‘Hrudaya Kaleyam’ is his big break and that the entire credit for the film’s victorious run at the box-office would go to director Steven Shankar who had “an amazing story in hand”, Sampoornesh Babu signs off.
