Not one, there are many instances where Nandamuri Balakrishna, actor-turned-political leader, has lost his cool, much to the chagrin of his fans and the aam janta. Be it slapping his fan at the muhurat of ‘Paramaveera Chakra’ or kicking a TDP worker a fortnight ago, Balayya, caught red handed at all occasions, remains to be aggressive off screen too.

If the infamous shooting episode which led to the hospitalization of producer Bellamkonda Suresh and astrologer Satyanarayana Choudary a decade ago still acts as a bolt on his character front, though courts later acquitted him in the case, Superstar Balakrishna continues to be a controversial figure, thanks largely to his temper. ‘Life lo konni vinakudadu chudakudu ani fix avutha, porabaatuna avi na kantiki kanipinchina, cheviki vinipinchina…temper lechuddi’ (If I get to see or hear something that I don’t want to pay attention to, I lose my temper), goes a line that he mouthed in ‘Legend’ and one look at the actor’s recent outbursts at his fans imply that he is beyond doubt not cool unlike his peers.

In an industry where fan following counts the most for stars and where fans play a critical role in the box-office collections of a film, Balayya, on multiple occasions, has let his hands work on his fans. The first incident where the actor was seen slapping a fan goes back to the launch of ‘Paramaveera Chakra’ (2010), his film with director Dasari Narayana Rao. A live event, the actor was caught slapping the fan who got very enthusiastic with the proceedings. Earlier to this event, on a visit to Tirumala, the actor smacked a fan who tried to block his way despite the stringent security arrangement.

Cut to February 2012 - Celebrating the 100 days run of ‘Sri Ramarajyam’ at Bhadrachalam, the actor slapped a man called Ramakrishna who curiously followed his movements. Although the actor had asked him to keep away, the fan didn’t heed to him, resulting in the star delivering a filmy-type thappad to the fan. Realizing his faux pas, the actor made quick amends and ensured that he posed with the fan just to gratify him.

Participating in the success tour of ‘Legend’ at a screen in Eluru recently, the actor lost it once again - he had to scream at the fans who stymied his departure.

To top it all, the actor was seen kicking a party worker, a fortnight ago at Hindupur, who allowed ex-MLA Ranganayakulu to get into the vehicle that he was using as part of his election campaign. That said, the actor was also reported to have used offensive language against the party worker for facilitating Ranganayakulu’s access into his vehicle.

“Yes there might be a slipup from the fans, as their adrenaline rushes to catch a glimpse of their matinee idol, but it doesn’t mean that a star of Balakrishna’s caliber resorts to force to dispel them. I haven’t seen the likes of Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh - the trio who command a big following - do the same,” said an industry insider.

Well, now that Balayya is into active public life, we hope he keeps his emotions in check!
