Regina: Happy to be Compared to IleanaIn an industry where a newbie’s fate depends upon her last release, Regina Cassandra stands tall. Despite the ordinary performance of her first two films- ‘SMS’ and ‘Routine Love Story’, the Chennai beauty has managed to bag two Geetha Arts projects - ‘Kotha Janta’ and ‘Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitham’ (PNLJ), thanks largely to her screen charisma. While the Allu Sirish-starrer which released the other week earned her accolades from all corners, she awaits the release of the ‘PNLJ’. In a chat-a-thon, she recalls how she landed with the role of Suvarna.

“Director Maruthi has seen a few portions of ‘PNLJ’ before approaching me to play Suvarna, a self-centered and career-oriented girl. After the narration, I felt that I will be able to do something good with my role which eventually I did,” she shares. Shooting for the film was like re-visiting school again, she feels. “Maruthi garu was my Telugu master on the sets. He gave me dialogues which were two to three pages long and I had to memorise them. It was like preparing for exams and going to school all again,” she smiles, while adding, “Nevertheless, my Telugu has improved to a great extent.”

Analysing her role, she feels, “I felt I was tad over expressive but people around me said I wasn’t. Generally I’m very animated and I keep making one or the other face; if I get some somber roles in the future, I need to tone down my expressions.” Tell her that she resembles Ileana in some angles, she interrupts you. “You are not the first one to say it and you’ll definitely be not the last one to say it,” she smiles wide. “I’m happy being compared to an actress who has left her mark in the industry.”

One who works out regularly, be it by hitting the gym or jogging, she reckons it’s important for an actress to be comfortable when she is about to perform an intimate scene. “If the director convinces me and if indeed the scene adds a dash of romance, I won’t hesitate to do a lip-lock. You can’t say your personal life will get affected and your mom might feel embarrassed; because at the end of the day you are a professional,” she states, adding, “If your comfort level takes a hit and if you don’t think you can pull off the scene naturally, then it’s fine. Otherwise it shouldn’t be deterrent for you to not do the scene.”
