The poster of Mallika Sherawat’s upcoming film Dirty Politics has given rise to a huge outcry from people all over the country because it has Mallika sitting on top of an Ambassador car with the tricolor draped around her and the State Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan in the background,

The 37-year-old Pyaar Ke Side Effects star is back to being the centre of controversy after walking the Cannes red carpet and giving a talk at Oxford university on gender. Directed by K C Bokadia, the poster was displayed at his office in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The filmmaker admits that the poster is “provocative” but saying that the film is based on the Bhanwari Devi sex scandal, he says references to politics are natural.

He adds that since there is no Ashoka Chakra on the drape, so it has nothing to do with the tricolor or any political party.

The Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) has not yet given clearance for the poster. T P Agarwal, the president of IMPPA, has reportedly mentioned that a poster or any publicity material that insults the tricolor will never be passed by the association.

Political parties have also objected to the poster, Bakodia says, telling a leading daily that workers of a political party from Rajasthan were putting pressure on him to “change the tricolor into some other scrap of fabric”.

Bokadia says that if IMPPA objects to the poster, he will just alter the colour of the drape from green to blue. He also clarified that he didn’t display the poster on purpose, but the publicity team used the poster within his office for self referencing.

Mallika Sherawat is playing Bhanwari Devi in the film, which also stars Naseerudin Shah, Anupam Kher, Om Puri, and Jackie Shroff.
