Ram Gopal Varma Goes Gaga Over FlowcamAfter his much-hyped rogue methodology in ‘Department’ failed to find any takers, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, a torchbearer when it comes to embracing new technology, is now testing waters with Flowcam, for his upcoming film ‘Ice Cream’, starring Navadeep and Tejaswi in the lead roles.

Stating the film’s content has driven him to use Flowcam, he said that “any new film equipment’s purpose is to take the audience experience of a film to a new level.” “When British film pioneer George Albert Smith took the first close-up of a clock, everybody was in for a shock. Similarly, when Hollywood director DW Griffith took close-ups of actors, stardom began to take form; the result of close-ups was such that Broadway actors, who had their reservations about film actors, had to change their perception before jumping onto the film bandwagon. Other cinematic inventions such as dissolve, track shot and steady cam had changed filmmaking for good,” informed Varma, speaking to Hans Talkies.

About Flowcam, he maintained, “I strongly feel that it will change the way a scene is designed in the future. With it, the audience will feel every emotion of the character without an interruption. That means there is a cut.”

Speaking about his upcoming thriller, he said, “The story revolves around a young pair who encounter strange things in a house. I’ve made many thrillers in the past, but ‘Ice Cream’ is unique because of the way it was shot.”
