Soumya SukumarShe was first seen in her brief appearance as Manchu Manoj’s friend in 2010 film ‘Vedam’ and later went on to reprise the role in the 2011 Tamil remake of the same film titled ‘Vaanam’. And now, Soumya Sukumar will be making her big screen debut as the lead actor in Srinivas Lankapalli’s ‘Pora Pove’.

“I play Sri Chaitanya, Chaitu, a young bubbly girl in the film. The character is that of an egoistic girl,” she says talking about her role in the film. But how did she land the role? “Gnanasekhar, the Director of Photography (DOP) for ‘Pora Pove’ was the assistant to the DOP of ‘Vedam’. He suggested to the filmmakers that I could be a suitable choice. And that’s how I got on board.”
It comes as a surprise that she wasn’t seen in any films after ‘Vedam’ considering the fact that there is a constant need of new faces in movies these days. Soumya explains that it was a conscious decision and says, “I did get a few offers but I didn’t want to put aside my studies. I am a post graduate in law.”
But facing the camera is nothing new for the 24-year-old who began modelling at the age of 10. “I used to pose in front of the mirror all the time and my mother saw my interest and decided that we should try a hand at modeling and then everything rolled out this way,” she elucidates.
So what does she find tougher? Acting or Modelling? “Both are different. The more you model, the easier you feel and the same is with acting. With experience it seems easier. Both are easy or tough depending how you choose to take it.”
The Tamil-speaking girl also says that she would like to make a foray into Tamil cinema. “Being a Tamilian, I would love to. There will be ease and a familiar territory is always easy to work in,” she signs off.
