Mumbai: The cat is finally out of the bag or so it seems.

If the authorities running the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are to be taken at face-value then the lovebirds who are painting London pink, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are to go into wedlock at the ‘very earliest’.

This comes even as there is scathing attack on allowing Indian cricketers and WAGs go into the English tour together. Criticism has come from all and sundry that the presence of women was hampering the performances of Indian cricketers, who have been subject to the worst Test humiliation in four decades.

A BCCI official has reportedly hit upon the best possible defence to substantiate the Board’s argument that only wives were being allowed on the tour.

Kohli, who sought permission for allowing Anushka to travel with him, has reportedly confirmed to the Board personnel that they ‘were getting married soon.’

Irrespective of whether the official is using this ‘marriage on the cards’ pretext to buy time or there has been a genuine assurance from Kohli is beside the point. What matters is that the BCCI is believed to have informed the team management (which has drawn flak after Kohli’s disastrous on-field performances) that the marriage was round the corner.

To add to the confusion, the official has actually cited a precedent whereby a captain had taken his girlfriend on a foreign tour earlier. This comes against opposition from several quarters which questioned the logic behind allowing girlfriends to
accompany the team when most were in town with their wives.

‘Is Kohli so special that he should be allowed to get away with whatever he wishes for,’ wondered a senior cricketer.

However, as things stand there is no confirmation on the date and venue on the vice-captain's Big Day.
