Priyanka Chopra Testing Waters

The 32 year old actor is one of the most sought-after stars in India. She released a single with rapper Pitbull, performed at the NFL, and was signed on by the clothing brand Guess as their top model.

The Bollywood star signed a one-year talent development deal with the network, under which the Walt Disney-owned company will develop a show for her or cast her in an existing show. Work will begin in January when the actress will leave for Los Angeles.

“It’s a great opportunity. For ABC, it makes sense because there is a huge Indian audience in the U.S. who will see someone they identify with on screen. And I have been a huge fan of television content in America and what they are doing, so it works both ways,” Chopra told Reuters in a phone interview.

Chopra dismissed the idea that she was signed on only because of the diversity agenda. “Thanks to my music, I am known in the U.S. Also my body of work is such that I have always tried different things. I take it as a compliment. I don’t think it is racial profiling or anything,” she said.

.On being asked about her drifting away from Bollywood the actor replies saying “I am still here and still doing films. I have two films coming out next year, and I am still talking to producers about scripts. But I also want to try out other avenues, other mediums. I am like a kid in a candy shop. You can’t pull me away”.

Well the nation is proud of Priyanka Chopra, and awaits to see her on the American screens.
