Komaram Bheem in Hindi?

Hyderabad: Usually, B-town producers are interested in securing rights of Telugu potboilers to remake them in Hindi, but veteran producer-director Pahlaj Nihalani has different plans. He is mulling remaking 1990’s hard-hitting revolutionary film Komaram Bheem in Hindi.

If everything goes well, B-town producer Nihalani, who is also chairperson of CBFC, will be remaking Telugu hit film Komaram Bheem in Hindi. He is proposed to launch the project with a budget of Rs 10 crore. He is considering taking up the venture because he has come to know that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown keen interest in a Telugu film on tribal hero who fought against Nizam rule.

Even Union Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya has promised his support to the idea to take Telangana hero to pan-Indian viewers. He has discussed with Nihalani, who is close to BJP leaders and explained to him about the valiant struggle of the 20th century tribal lord and urged him to promote on-screen avatar across the country.

“Nihalani is close to the Prime Minister and BJP top brass. In course of his discussions with the Prime Minister, he came to know about Telangana tribal icon and then made efforts to get in touch with Telugu producer-director Allani Sridhar to secure rights of the Telugu film in the last few months.

Dattatreya, who participated in a film function, organised by the Telangana State unit Film Cell, reportedly broached the subject of the film with Allani Sridhar. Sridhar was one of the recipients of awards at the function. “I had talks with Nihalani, but nothing concrete decision was taken,” Sridhar said.
