Srimanthudu’ has been a runaway hit at the Box Office, drawing a great craze among fashion aficionados everywhere. Designer Akshay Tyagi, the man behind the Mahesh Babu’s suave looks in the film is a graduate from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (2008) with a BFA in Textiles.

Akshay is a personal fashion stylist and designer whose strength lies in his use of structure and form. Speaking about Prince aka Mahesh Babu’s three new looks in his latest movie ‘Srimanthudu’, Akshay says, “The style is based on the characters played by Mashesh Babu who played three different roles.

There is a college look, a corporate and village look, which have been styled accordingly.” Akshay, who is also the personal stylist of actor Hrithik Roshan, designed each of Mahesh Babu’s outfits with different colours and textures. He shares how his cultural background allows him to find artistic inspiration by fusing Indian design philosophy and technique with the Western concept of design.

He aims to make works that are close to his personal philosophy and wishes to grow in the field. Describing the different styles he says, “For the college look we used casual wear like a sweater over t-shirts, checkered shirts, plain shirts and round necks, which make him look younger and youthful.

For the corporate look formal wear was used, and for the village scenes, a combination of dhoti, shirt and shorts was used and it is one of the outfits I enjoyed working.”Akshay adds, “Styling Mahesh Babu was very challenging for me, for this movie. The village look was hard as it was very different and exclusive.

I tried dhoti, scarves and gave a traditional look with a twist.”The Mumbai-based designer’s upcoming project is for an Aditya Kapoor movie, ‘Fitoos’.
