Hyderabad: The overwhelming success of three Telugu films, one after another, in the US has stumped the filmmakers. The three films – Bahubali, Srimanthudu and Bhale Bhale Magadivoi – garnered over Rs 60 crore (gross collections) between July 10 and September 10 in the US. According to overseas distributor, Bahubali had collected Rs 38 crores(gross), Srimanthudu Rs 18 crore (gross) and Bhale Bhale Mogadivoi Rs 6 crores (gross).

It has given hopes for T-town filmmakers over the possibility of exploiting the overseas market from now on. “These figures have amply proved that the Telugu films with novel plots and good promotional campaign could set box office on fire even in the US,’ said Rajkumar of KAD Entertainments, a leading overseas distributor.

“The collections are just from 100 to 150 centres in the US and there is lot to be exploited by new-age filmmakers, Coz these three films have opened floodgates for T-town films in no time,” he added.

Earlier big hits in overseas were “Atharintiki Daredi” and “Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu” which grossed Rs 10 crore each and Mahesh was also crowned as overseas Badshah as he had more hits than other T-town stars.

“It all depends on the individual producers who should be shrewd enough to extract good revenues” he said. On weekends in the US ticket rate per head is $ 20 to 25 and on other days its pegged around $ 10 to 15 but still three films did well on weekends and boosted the collections to set a new record.

“More than the money, viewers expect some good entertainment and these three films which were quite different from each other offered them a quality production and garnered collections. Telugu films are also being released in London, South Africa, Australia and we need to expand even to other countries to earn big revenues,” he felt.
