Deep Raaj Rana, who plays a pivotal role as the chief of security in the flick ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, talks about sharing screen space with Salman Khan and Anupam Kher
Excerpts:
How was the experience working in ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’?
It was a substantial journey. It is a treat for any actor to work with Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan. The feeling is out of world and I’m working for the first time with them, and I’m looking forward for the response of the congregated.
Tell us about your role in the movie?
It is very positive role. I play the security in-charge for the prince. The character has all shades of a good human being. My character is important in the life of the prince and what’s happening around him.
What are the similarities between Deep Raaj Rana and Sanjay Thakur have?
Sanjay Thakur works for a Prince. I belong to Rana family and my forefathers ruled Nepal. My great great grandfather was Prime Minister there. So how a King should behave and how their Ang Rakshaks (Body Guards) conduct themselves around the royalty is something I know naturally and I did the same way. I know how Rajwada people are. For me it was little easy to carry the character.
How was your chemistry with other stars on the sets?
The scenes where I was indulged are very serious. Cherry on the top is working with Anupam Kher. We are a trio on the screen that is Anupam Kher, Salman Bhai and I. On screen we are very serious, however, off-screen it was full of fun and masti. --
Can you say this role is one of the prominent characters in your career?
Yes. Of course we can say that. This role will be one the most prominent character in my career. Sometimes you do good roles but people don’t watch them. For instance I worked in ‘Sahib Biwi and Gangster’. Out of 10 only 3 said they watched the film. But a Salman Khan movie, is watched by 10 crore people in a week. And that takes me closer to audience.
You manage a production house; did you give any suggestions to Sooraj Barjatya?
No I did not. His homework is best. Suggestions for him are not necessary. But yes as an actor I think I personally learned from him. After the first scene the way he looked at me, that was enough to know that I did best. But when we saw the film together, he asked me “Do you need any changes to be done in your role?” I said “Action was little loud”. Then he said he also felt the same and said he will make it subtle there. Sooraj is a great director.
What about your upcoming film ‘Maharajan Sarkar’, which comes from your own production house.
It is a bio-pic. It is about a lady who arranges pyres for funerals. She started her fight with the society at the age of 14. According to rituals elder son performs the last rites, she fought with the society and made sure that even a girl can perform the last rites and light the pyre of her parents. --
In future can we see you producing or directing Salman?
Now I don’t know. But yes in future for sure we will work together. I haven’t thought in what genre I will direct. But now you asked me (laughs), now I will make sure I show him in the way which was not projected before in his career.
