Ram MohanAssociated with churning out content-driven cinema like ‘Ashta Chamma’, ‘Golconda High School’ and ‘Uyyala Jampala’, producer P Ram Mohan has turned director with ‘Tanu Nenu,’ starring Santosh Sobhan, Avika Gor and Ravi Babu, in the lead roles. The producer-director insists that he took direction like a fish takes to water.

“I was very comfortable calling the shots. I myself was shocked about it. I wrapped up the film in flat 33 days … maybe because the script was with me for the past three years; I knew what I wanted to do. I remember shooting 12 minutes footage, much to the surprise of my editor Marthand K Venkatesh, one day,” he shares.

However, Ram Mohan never thought of helming the flick to begin with. “I was discussing the script with a couple of filmmakers but somehow my sensibilities didn’t match theirs. After sometime my technicians--Editor Marthand, art director S Ravinder and composer MR Sunny--insisted I direct. Even Rana echoed a similar opinion,” he remembers.

Describing the film as a romedy, he states, “It traces the story of Keerthy(Avika) who is conditioned by her father Bandireddi Sarveswara Rao (Ravi Babu), a lazy, diabetic, twice heart-attacked, good for nothing guy, to go US. She falls in love with Kiran (Santosh) who hates the US. The follow up events are told in a lighter vein.”

He admits to being a fan of romantic comedies. “I’m light-hearted by nature. For me life is nothing but romance and humour. I believe it’s a nice combination and I try to mirror it in my films.”

Up next, Ram Mohan will be bankrolling a new venture ‘Pittagudu’, the shooting of which will commence on Thursday in Godavarikhani. To be directed by first timer Anudeep, it will feature Vishwadeva Rachakonda and Punarnavi Bhupalam in the lead roles.
