It all started with Ram Gopal Varma, who established his own production house while he was still a star director. He made small films and gave chances to his assistant directors. Now, everyone seems to be walking in his footsteps.
Recently Sukumar started his production house called ‘Sukumar Writings’ and made ‘Kumar 21F’. Following his guru’s footsteps Puri also started his own company named ‘Puri Talkies’.
Even in Tamil industry, we can see star directors AR Murugadoss floating his production company and giving a chance to new film makers. He produced films like ‘Journey’ and ‘Raja Rani’. Big director Shankar too is having his own production house and produces small budget flicks.
This serves two purposes. It helps in bringing out new ideas and new talent and make good profits as small films don’t usually make losses.
