Jabardasth’, the stand-up comedy show has not only given a new lease of life for many of its participants and anchor Reshmi, but also catapulted its writer Prasanna Kumar Bezawada into a sought-after property.
Jabardasth’, the stand-up comedy show has not only given a new lease of life for many of its participants and anchor Reshmi, but also catapulted its writer Prasanna Kumar Bezawada into a sought-after property. Credited with writing the first 50 episodes of the show, which is still ruling the TRP charts, Prasanna Kumar, 30, has made a successful transition to films with Raj Tarun-starrer ‘Cinema Choopistha Mava’ (CCM).
“I was offered 16 films before ‘CCM’. I was not aware of how to go about a film scene before I was flooded with offers,” he guffaws, noting, “When I joined director Trinadha Rao and producer Bekkem Venugopal we didn’t had a script in place. It was only after we sat down over multiple sittings, we started developing a plotline. I was associated with the film for 18 months—from inception to post release.”
Smiling he continues, “I was taking home somewhere between three to four lakh per month for ‘Jabardasth’ whereas I took two lakh to work for ‘CCM’.” The Bandar lad, who has a B-Tech degree to his name, believes in giving everything for a film. “I want my films to be remembered five years from now. The more we give for a film, the more—fame or money—we get back,” he insists.
Turning writer, he says, “was by accident. It was on the insistence of my friends Dhanraj and Venu that I started writing for ‘Jabardasth’,” he reminisces. “After my tenth grade I never read a magazine forget alone a book. I hate reading. I’m just applying common sense to paper.”
While he admits to having Puri Jagannadh’s influence on his writing inadvertently, he wants to realise his wish of directing a film in the near future. “I will wield the megaphone in 2018. There is a space for writers now and I’m enjoying it. I have been respected for my work and I want to take it more responsibly. I think I can write for more films. I have time by my side, so why hurry?”
Admittedly, the writer is busy. While he has completed writing ‘Neram’ remake for Sundeep Kishan – that too in a week—he is on the brink of wrapping up a female driven-script. To star Avika Gor, the latter will be produced by Bekkem Venugopal. About the former, he shares, “It’s a thriller but I peppered it with humour.”
