Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films have set up a deal to remake 2015 French drama “La Famille Belier” in multiple Indian languages.

"Ugly" and "Gangs of Wasseypur"'s director has owned the right to remake this hugely popular film whose main theme is the importance of the family in the process of self-accomplishment. The film is about a girl whose parents and brother are deaf (played by Louane Emera)and her quest of fulfilling her dream to become a singer. The 2014 release La Famille Belier was directed by Eric Lartigau and was greeted with critical acclaim and commercial success.

Speaking about the film, Anurag Kashyap (who is a self-confessed ardent admirer of French cinema) said that he really liked the film and with suitable changes in sensibilities, it will be an interesting tale for the cinegoers.

On the other hand, Vikas Bahl (who is busy with developing the subject in multiple languages) said that La Famille Belier was a beautiful story that is bound to echo with the Indian sensibilities and culture. He added that the reason as to why they are making the film in multiple languages is that they wanted to reach out to as big an audience as possible.

French directors such as Claude Lelouch ("Un + Une") and Nicolas Saada ("Taj Mahal") have recently shot in India, mostly with local technicians.
