He belongs to the ‘romantic’ school of Yash Chopra and is proud to flaunt it. Although, he credits his style to the overbearing influence of the iconic Bollywood filmmaker, Dasaradh has carved a niche for himself nearer home, one that puts him in the family drama genre. Lest one dubs him as a Chopra clone, he has his own take on the genre he loves to be bracketed alongside with.

‘I like clean family movies and not those that propagate violence and vulgarity in one’s quest to hit the bull’s eye at the box-office. I have neither any qualms nor pretensions in admitting that watching Yash Chopra films came as eye-openers.

He helped me discover my inner strength and I knew where my calling was-placing emphasis on the emotional quotient of the lead characters with an aura of freshness all too prevalent. My films are high on emotions and highlight bonding among friends and family.

I am inspired by human dramas because they both move and motivate the inner me,” points out the suave director, who is all set for the release of ‘Shourya’, starring Manchu Manoj and Regina Cassandra in the lead. There are no points for guessing that this is also a romantic family drama.

Surprisingly, for someone who has been in the industry for 15 years, Dasaradh has made only half-a-dozen films of which four fall in the family-entertainer category. “I take my own time to write the script. At times, the project takes time to materialise even though I’m done with the writing.

On that count, I believe that all corresponding factors that go into the making of a film have to fall in place for it to take off. Moreover, I want to be remembered as one who stood for delivering quality work and not one driven by quantity. I have never compromised on excellence. I’m happy with my pace of work,” he reasons.

Speaking about ‘Shourya’, did he ever think of moving away from his patented genre, particularly after his last release ‘Greeku Veerudu’?

He admits, “Well the thought of doing something slightly different did cross my mind. Of course, it had to be a romantic thriller that still retained my core value family emotion. It was then I started to work on the script of ‘Shourya’.

It’s a plot that once again centres on love and family sentiment, which comes with an element of suspense that’ll hopefully keep the audience glued to the screens.” Dasaradh carries the reputation of giving an image makeover for the central character in his films. It is ditto with Manchu Manoj too.

“I believe that the lead actor’s image should suit the storyline to make a sense of it. My film explores an untapped side of the actor with a gripping screenplay. One of the reasons why Manoj agreed to come on board was because of the makeover he had to undergo for the exciting plot. I must say that he has done a fabulous job,” he chips in.

The filmmaker believes writing characters that are realistic and bear a strong connect. “I want my characters to look real because it connects naturally with the audience. They should not look like larger-than-life roles,” he points out.
