Two weeks after it was announced at Amaravati, ‘Gautamiputra Satakarni’, a Krish directorial, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the title role, had it’s muhurat on Friday in Hyderabad.

A grand affair, Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao attended the ceremony as the chief guest while familiar faces from the industry Dasari Narayana Rao, K Raghavendra Rao, Singeetham Srinivas Rao, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, A Kodandarami Reddy, B Gopal, Vijayendra Prasad, Narayana Murthy, Thammareddy Bharadwaj and Gunnam Gangaraju among others graced the occasion.

Dasari who directed the first shot on Balayya said the film on Gautamiputra is a matter of pride for all Telugus. “Satakarni has become an emperor after defeating 33 kingdoms. The festival Ugadi has commenced with him and I appreciate Krish for hitting upon on an idea to make a film on him and imagining Balayya to play Satakarni. Balayya is known to sink his teeth into any role that he plays and it would be no different this time around. I hope the film creates history at the box-office.”

Chiranjeevi said Balayya’s decision to play Gautamiputra is itself a first step towards success. “I don’t have any doubts the film will be a milestone in Balayya’s career. Krish has the knack of bringing authenticity to period dramas. His World War II drama, ‘Kanche’, is a classic example. I’m sure Balayya will immerse himself into the character. As a matter of fact he slips into such roles effortlessly. I wholeheartedly wish the film to complete silver jubilee,” Chiru noted.

Balakrishna said Telugu calendar has started with Gautamiputra. “The worrying factor is not many Telugus are aware of Gautamiputra. The film is our effort to present his story on a level that even global audience will get to know him. He was born at Koti Lingala, Karimnagar and established his capital at Amaravati. He is the lone Telugu emperor.

Krish and his team are relentlessly doing extensive research to get every detail right. I will be dedicating the film to my all my co-stars, technicians, fans and Telugus all over.” Telangana ministers T Harish Rao and Talasani Srinivas Yadav too were spotted at the do.
