Kratika Sengar Dheer is hogging the limelight with her TV serial ‘Kasam’. Hailing from Kanpur, Kratika has been in the industry for nine years now
You have been in the industry for nine year now. What changes have you seen in yourself?
I used to introvert girl and with the kind of work I have done that put a lot of confidence in me. I use to have major stage fright although I used to participate in dance competitions. But I believed that there is something missing in me and now I have overcome the fear. At same time I became very mature in my work and leant a lot so many people around me.
Do you ever thought a small town girl from Kanpur will get so much reputation and fan following?
Firstly, there is nothing do with a small town girl. Nowadays education in small town is far much better than metropolitan cities. I never thought I would ever come to Mumbai for acting. It happened by chance not by my choice.
Any regrets about any show?
Honestly, I won’t regret picking up any show, because every show taught me something. If it was the successful show it taught me something and if it wasn’t, still it taught me something. But I’m sad that my previous show on Zee TV ‘Service Wali Bahu’ couldn’t really gain a lot of TRPs, the concept also drained out a little bit within a month and hence the show was shut within six months. But still I won’t regret doing that show.
You started your career with Balaji Telefilms and now once again you have teamed with them, how does it feel?
It’s a very different feeling. Even the director of ‘Kasam’ was my first director for ‘Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. I’m working with him after nine years. He knows me in and out as he was the one who showcased me on television for the first time and hence he knows my comfort levels. When the same people say that nine year back you did supporting roles and now you are doing as lead actress, gives me immense happiness. Since I know the production house, I share my problems with them if I have any.
What is the pull factor that made you say yes to the show ‘Kasam’?
I picked up the show because of Balaji and Ekta. Ekta is the woman who spotted me and because of her, I’m here. Above all, I loved the concept. It is a very different love story.
What are the similarities between you and Tanu?
There are no similarities at all. I’m very much impatient when it comes to testing patience. On the contrary, I’m bubblier and do fun all the time on sets and at home.
You have always done positive roles, how was the experience doing a negative role?
I would love to do something hardcore negative. I think one can really play with negative shades. People approach for me lead roles and protagonists are meant to be positive only.
Is there any show that is close to your heart?
For now, Zee’s ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’ is very close to my heart. That is my first show as a lead actress. Everyone was little apprehensive about the fact that will I be able to attract TRP’s or not, as they wanted to stretch the show for another couple of years. I would say that it is my remarkable show because I have given my soul and heart to it. I used to stay at Karjat for 30 days for the shoot without ACs and I would practice, sword fighting and horse riding and in the process, I was injured many times.
How is working with Sharad Malhotra?
Sharad is an old friend of mine and we have worked together earlier. When I gave the audition for the role I didn’t know who is acting opposite me. But when I met him I was like “Woah! That’s so cool”.
What does your husband Nikitin Dheer say about ‘Kasam’?
He doesn’t like me crying. So he simply switches off the channel when he sees me crying. He asks me: “Why that woman is making you cry?” He is a typical husband (Giggles). But he being an actor as well he understands about my work. He is very honest with his opinion. He is my critic. I find it very cool actually.
The buzz around the town is that ‘Kasam’ made Kratika an arrogant and stubborn woman, what is your take on it?
It is very sad that few media people to create buzz write anything. When this came across to us, I and Sharad directly approach our production house and channel. And after that the people who put up such articles tender their apologies to the channel. Those media people are even banned on our set. It’s really unfair. We been working from so many years and over a night somebody writes about it. I’m not a person who takes anyone’s nonsense. I want to give them back. I’m very revengeful (Laughs).
