From ramp to silver screen

Model-turned-actor Divya Chouksey hails from Bhopal and she belongs to a family of lawyers, however, she chose to sing and act instead of following the family tradition. “I feel I'm too sexy to be a lawyer (laughs) but had I been one,

I would have been a great one, my dad always tells me that I would have been one hell of a lawyer,” Divya shares. On her parents’ reaction when she told them about her passion for acting, she shares, “My parents asked me to do my masters first and then do whatever I want to do, they have always supported me, and found happiness in my happiness.”

Divya was also a part of the top 20 contestants at ‘I am She’, after which a lot of modelling offers started rolling in and she is finally now gearing up for her upcoming release ‘Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara’. “I'm playing the role of Sanya Dalwani in the film. She is a hot, classy business woman, who is a designer and the man of the house,” she informs.

Talking about the atmosphere on the sets she says, “There were a zillion funny moments, my favourite is when I had to pull my partner's hair, he said 'Divya, you can actually pull my hair and I did that, later I saw a handful of his hair in my hand and I couldn’t stop laughing.”

The film ‘Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara’ is directed by Monjoy Joy Mukerji and Divya states that as a director, he was super strict with her. “Monjoy is very particular about what he wants from his actors, the expressions and the dialogues. He also lets us improvise if we are good at it,” she says.

Divya learnt filmmaking in the UK and she has been working on a few scripts. “I write too, the day I feel I can direct I will do so. Right now I'm happy acting 'direction ke liye poori life padi hai'”, Divya signs off.
