TV is still cramped area: Monica Sehgal

Monica Sehgal, who won hearts of people as Radhika in the TV show ‘Manmarzian’ is back with web series ‘Starting-Up’ on YouTube. The actress in a candid interview shares about her career and new web series.

Excerpts.
Why are you doing a web series?
It’s all about the creativity. Because in television we are cramped up with some kind of content, we can’t go beyond it, whereas, in web series we can showcase what we want. It gives anyone freedom to choose their own story and come up with some good creative ideas. Television is still under stereotypic shows and in web series; we can have a target audience.

In television we have TRPs, so is a web series is gauged?
We are just a like and a comment far from the viewers. And, if it’s good people start talking about the show and they share it on their timeline and as more people know there will be more viewers.

How does web series helps in showcasing creativity?
Web series gives an opportunity to anyone. A web series has much time to show why lead pairs are like this, etc; however, on TV it is not possible. And also a daily soap can’t run with two actors, it needs many supporting characters, but in a web series you can do with two actors when you have an efficient crew.

Does this mean you are quitting TV?
I’m in no place to say what actually I will do because as an actor I want to try all the phases. You have seen me in daily soaps, now in web series; maybe you will see me in a finite series or dramatic and theatre too. I just want to grow career wise and entertain the audience.

Tell us about your show?
The whole concept is about a guy and a girl who have an arranged marriage and they start their life with many dreams. Eventually, they learn how things change post marriage and most important thing is will they both be able to accept this change?

How about your role?
I’m playing as Vasudha Iyer, who is married to Govind Iyer. She is very ambitious and strong headed girl. At the same time, she knows what actually she wants from life and in what way one should take decisions to achieve them

You have a YouTube channel “Juggad”, so can we see your creativity in ‘Starting Up’?
Both are poles apart. Juggad is a channel, where I monitor everything and show people how to reuse things for our purpose. But web series is where I’m an actor and I’m here to act. Both can’t be one. I can add my creativity in acting not in any other sector of the show.
