Even before the news of hero-turned-villain Jagapathi Babu’s hefty pay cheque of Rs 1 crore for his “villain role” in “Nannaku Prematho” and Rs 75 lakhs for Aadi Pinisetty for his negative role in “Sarrainodu” could sink in, Arvind Swamy has outwitted one and all at a stroke.

Hyderabad: Tamil star Arvind Swamy of Roja and Bombay fame has apparently set a new record of sorts by receiving a hefty remuneration to play baddie in the Ram Charan’s upcoming film “Dhruv.” He has reportedly pocketed Rs 2.5 crore, which is considered the highest payment ever paid for a negative role in T-town.

If not for Arvind Swamy, Telugu producer would not have paid such a fancy price,” said director Veera Sankar, who made films starring Pawan Kalyan.

Arvind Swamy is a popular star even in T-town post blockbusters like Roja and Bombay in 90’s. Since Dhruv” is a remake of Tamil blockbuster “Thani Oruvan,” with Arvind playing the suave villain in the original, Telugu producer has a limited choice to find an alternative.

So nothing wrong in Arvind cashing in on it. For instance, Telugu villain Rami Reddy was retained when Ankusam was remade in Hindi and Kannada too, so it is not new now” added Shankar.

No doubt, it seems to be a season of hero-turned-villains in T-town. Ahead of Arvind Swamy, it was T-town star Jagapathi Babu, who started the trend with “Legend” and followed it up with big films like “Lingaa” and “Nannaku Prematho” and now reportedly drawing a packet of more than Rs 1 core per each film.

Recently, young hero Aadi Pinisetty, who made his debut as hero in Telugu with “Oka V Chitram” and later did Tamil films, before returning to ruthless baddy roles in “Sarrainodu” and drew appreciation. “A new villain brings in lot of freshness to an action adventure, since it would be a tug-of-war between hero and baddy till the end.

Jagapathi rocked by matching strides with big stars like Balakrishna and NTR and now it is turn of Arvind Swamy to take on Ram Charan in a gripping saga “Dhruv.”

In fact, a hero-turned-villain will be an added advantage for star-studded fare, so more heroes could turn villains since its lucrative too” concluded Devi Prasad.
