In trade circles parlance, Nani enjoys a higher success ratio when featuring in love stories. Giving credibility to the latest fad are ‘Ala Modalaindi’, ‘Eega’, ‘Yeto Vellipoindhi Manasu’, ‘Bhale Bhale Magadivoy’ and ‘Krishngaadi Veera Premagaadha’, whose success have delighted the audience and the producers to equal levels.

With ‘Gentleman’ too setting the cash registers ringing, Nani has now cemented his place as one of the most bankable actors in the industry. What’s more, he is being perceived as the go-to man for romantic movies, a slot that has been lying vacant ever since Nagarjuna started taking roles suiting his age.

On his part, the suave actor understands the importance of romance in today’s films. “I have always been comfortable with romantic roles. The fact of the matter is that unlike in Hollywood, we cannot do away with love stories per se. On that count, it’s important to be as natural as you can when it comes to romance, something the audience laps up in a rich measure,” he reasons.

He continues, “There are actors who reel loud dialogues accurately but they don’t fit into the romance storyline. I don’t know if I’m a match for loud dialogues but I’m perfect for romance. My own gut feeling is that one should not propose to a girl beautifully (in a film), but there should be an honest approach.

Only then audience will relate to it. Take for instance ‘Krishngaadi Veera Premagaadha’. People had problems with the second half but everyone appreciated the love-track. Since I grew up in the mass areas of Hyderabad, a hero has never been a larger-than-life character. He is one among us and I try to mirror that image in all my films.”

The actor will be playing an assistant director in ‘Uyyala Jampala’ director Virinchi Varma’s next, which obviously has a romantic track to it. While he feels it’s too early to talk about it, he is excited about his role.

Is he playing himself in the film as since he started off as an AD? “No, I’m not playing myself. If we show the problems of an AD, nobody will watch it. There’s a cinematic touch to my role. He is an entertaining guy with a different diction. And watch out for the surprising element,” he tells all and sundry.
