Sukriti Kakar was born in a musical family who moved to Mumbai when she was 9. Reflect on her entry into music she shares, “My mom was a music teacher and my elder sister (Akriti Kakkar) ventured into music at 17 and decided to make a career in this field. So I have seen her dedication, struggle and achieve her dreams, etc., and all that inspired me to come into music. So I realised at a very young age that all wanted to do is make a career in music. My mom also encouraged me to peruse my dreams.”

Sukriti who started working at 16 states that the experience she gained during her learning days helped her debut as a playback singer. “I think the entire approach to making a career in music has changed over the years. The social networking platforms help to reach the composers easy and musicians too are ready to experiment with different kinds of voices. I kept on putting efforts – did chorus for lot of mainstream artistes, performed at several private gigs, met several people, etc., but I consider it as a learning phase.”

Some of her hit numbers include “Pehli Baar" (‘Dil Dhadakne Do’) ‘Kar Gayi Chull’ (‘Kapoor and Sons’) and the latest “Rustom Vahi” (‘Rustom’). “I feel maximum reach can only be attained when signing for stars. I recently crooned for Akshay Kumar and I’m glad that the number I sung received wide appreciation. In fact, he was the one who locked my voice when I sung the scratch and insisted me to croon. But singing for big projects and stars is a responsibility,” shares the Delhi-born adding, “My twin sister (Prakriti) is my best friend. But I’ve auditioned against her several times (smiles) but there’s always a healthy competition.”
