Shubra Aiyappa, who has been prepping up to make her Bollywood debut, has landed a theatre play in Hindi. The Coorgi-born will play the female lead Sanjana in her first play ‘Acton Ek Film Katha’, a satirical take on stereotypic films in Bollywood, directed by Tauqeer Ali.
Talking about the interesting assignment, Shubra says, “When I first heard the narration, I was wondering whether to take up the project or not since the dialogues are in Shuddh Hindi, which wasn’t my strength. But I took it up as a challenge and have been rehearsing for five hours every day since one month. I grew in confidence now. I’ll also shake a leg for a couple of numbers in the play.”
Shubra feels the workshop is an ideal step before taking a Bollywood plunge. “I have never done a workshop till now and I believe the experience helped me get my Hindi diction and expressions better. Although I have done a few films in South, the approach to the play is very different.
It made me shed my inhibitions. In a film, there’s only one shot and then cut; but in a play, you have to keep the emotion going throughout. I feel it is a god’s gift for me to do a play at this point of time. I have prepared so hard for the play that and feel it’s the ideal step before venturing into Bollywood. I’m very excited and looking forward to it.”
