The actress who was announced ambassador of IFFM in 2012, an initiative of the Victorian Government has constantly done her bit to encourage ties between India and Australia when it comes to their love for cinema.

This time around the actress hopes to put the spotlight on India's regional cinema and will be presenting the Marathi film Ekk Albela at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

The film that sees Vidya in a special role ,will have its Australian premiere at the festival on the closing day and with this becomes the first ever Marathi film to be screened in Australia.

Vidya has been the face of the festival that presents a broad, curated program of more than sixty films, ranging from Bollywood to art house and the sub continent as well as major retrospectives and masterclasses.

The special screening of Ekk Albela will hopefully generate more interest around Marathi cinema and regional films from India as a whole on a global platform.

Ekk Albela is a biopic based on Bhagwan Dada and Vidya makes a special appearance as she revives Geeta Bali in the film.
