“People started noticing me after ‘Kerintha’ though I had a limited presence in it. I just got lucky with ‘Nandini Nursing Home’.”

After making her debut with Dil Raju’s ‘Kerintha’ last year where she was seen in a supporting role, Nitya Naresh has now gone solo with ‘Nandini Nursing Home,’ which features Nawin Vijaya Krishna, son of senior actor Naresh, in the lead. Admittedly, Nitya is on cloud nine.

“It feels great to feature in a project which is titled after your character’s name,” she beams. “People started noticing me after ‘Kerintha’ though I had a limited presence in it. I just got lucky with ‘Nandini Nursing Home’.”

About her character in ‘Nandini Nursing Home’, she shares, “She is an independent and powerful businesswoman. She looks after her doctor dad’s nursing home and the moment she steps into it, the staff is on their toes. She is like the Meryl Streep from ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. It’s a role with substance.”

Dubbing the film as a romantic comedy with a twist, Nitya points out that Nawin’s carefree attitude helped her to break the ice with him.

“Initially I felt that I would be nervous sharing screen space with him since he comes from a reputed film family but after discovering that he’s full of fun, it helped me to bond with him in a short span of time. He is talented, chilled out and got a crazy sense of humour,” she says.

The half-Malayali, who has settled in Hyderabad seven years ago after juggling between multiple coastal cities (as her dad was into Navy), admits that her Telugu is getting better.

“I’m almost there. Since I’m a South Indian, if I read my lines a couple of times, I can easily memorise them. I’m saying all my dialogues in Telugu on sets, ruling out any prompting. It’s just that if I have an impromptu conversation with someone, I err with my grammar,” she chortles.

She insists that it was a new experience shooting for ‘Nandini Nursing Home’.

“For someone who comes from a fauji family where everything is so simple, the industry experience has been dreamlike. It is overwhelming when people want to take your autograph. Most of the time when someone takes a picture with me, I say thanks to them as well as I feel touched,” she smiles, revealing that she is excited to meet Mahesh Babu who will unveil the film’s audio on September 27.
