The actor exudes confidence that his role would win him brownie points. He puts in, “’After ‘Maryada Ramanna’, I think this is the best role I have done.

The actor on why he green-lit ‘Edu Gold Ehe,’ responsibilities as a lead actor and spending time with family, finally!

After ‘Krishnashtami’ and ‘Jakkanna’, Sunil is gearing up for his third release of the year, ‘Edu Gold Ehe’, which will open in cinemas on October 7. “It’s good to be on a signing spree. I was floored with director Veeru Potla’s writing and felt that it’s a role that I have hitherto essayed. I play Bangarraju and have two shades.

Although my earlier films were predictable, there’s an element of suspense till the climax in this film and that’ll keep the audience glued to the screens,” reasons Sunil, when asked about why he signed the comic thriller.

The actor exudes confidence that his role would win him brownie points. He puts in, “’After ‘Maryada Ramanna’, I think this is the best role I have done. I’m confident that my character will get thunderous applause. I feel doing commercial films is very challenging because of changing taste of the audience and business dynamics. I might have done several commercial films (as a lead actor) earlier but this role has given me a lot of satisfaction.”

For someone who wanted to enter the industry as a baddie, how did playing a comic actor and protagonist change him? “It changed me a lot over the years. My approach ad thought process has gone for a sea change in the way I pick up scripts.

As a comedian, my job was to come and act but as a lead actor I have to shoulder the film and look into several other things like budget, time, promotions and release. But I relish doing them. I have always tried to choose scripts that keep the audience guessing all the time and ‘Edu Gold Ehe’ is one such example,” maintains the ‘Andala Ramudu’ actor, who is also shooting for Kranthi Madhav’s untitled film.

“Kranthi Madhav’s script is a comic caper and will leave the audience in splits. I believe his way of dealing the script blended with my comic timing will have greater impact. I’ve already completed shooting some key portions.”

Sunil admits that he’s now making up for all the lost time of not spending with his family. “I have had a choc-o-block date dairy as a comic actor. I couldn’t spend enough time with my family but now I’m compensating for all that by giving them sufficient time. My kids enjoy my films. Especially my son pulls off some of my dance moves with élan,” he smiles.
