“I couldn’t have asked for a better launch pad in Telugu. I have been received well and glad that my performance is getting wide acclaim,” reflects an excited Nandita on her latest release ‘Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada’ (‘EPC’).

“I couldn’t have asked for a better launch pad in Telugu. I have been received well and glad that my performance is getting wide acclaim,” reflects an excited Nandita on her latest release ‘Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada’ (‘EPC’).

The Bangalore-born, who buck the odds to debut in a deglam role in the Vi Anand directorial, says she has no apprehensions about being typecast. “If I have to make a name for myself then I need to pick up an unusual role but with a substance.

I saw that the potential in my role of Amala, hence I green-lit it. Moreover, it is a character which I never played earlier and that excited me a lot,” recalls Nandita on why she took up the romantic thriller.

She likes being spontaneous and believes in giving her best shot in her first take itself. “I give my best in my first or second take since I’ll be geared up for the shot (smiles). I’m also game to go for a few more retakes if the director insists. I have not done any homework for my role since I believe in spontaneity,” she feels.

But does she believe in ghosts and spirits in real life? “Once when I was travelling with my parents I saw a ghost. I was scared, but when we believe in God we should also believe in the existence of ghosts,” the actress chuckles.

Playing glamorous roles is always on her agenda but Nandita doesn’t like just being a prop. “I would love to do glamorous roles but that said, I need to have something to do in the film other than running around the trees (smiles). I guess I am fortunate to get roles that are substantial and meaty so far.

I also enjoyed featuring in the action sequences in ‘EPC’. It was so fun! I earlier enacted in an action sequence in Selvaraghavan’s film and I’m doing it for the second time. I believe in doing something unique every time and the fight episode in the film comes in as a surprise.”

Ask her how is Vi Anand as a filmmaker? “He is great when it comes to convincing the actors with his narrative. He has the ability to shoot exactly what he writes. Also, his thought process is very clear.”

The icing on the cake for Nandita was when Allu Arjun called on and congratulated her. “That’s so sweet of him. He appreciated my performance and said ‘welcome to Tollywood’. Compliments from someone like him is a great boost.”
