‘Dhruva’ has ended Ram Charan’s poor streak at the box-office and admittedly he is over the moon about it. He says that when he decided to star in the film, a remake of Tamil hit ‘Thani Oruvan,’ he received many phone calls, asking him why he chose a villain-centric subject.

“But may be mine and director Surender Reddy’s willpower was strong, which pushed us to go ahead,” said Charan.

He was speaking at the film’s success meet in Hyderabad on Friday evening.

Charan also recalled a conversation he had with acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam. “We were to do a film sometime back but it didn’t happen.

As he was about to leave, he said, ‘Charan, you’ve achieved so much success and you are a big hero but why do you confine yourself to safe cinema?’ He asked me to think of different cinema, saying that such cinema might not stack big money like the commercial cinema but still you will get fame through it.
Guess me green-signalling ‘Dhruva’ came out from his talk,” Charan said.

“If we as actors bother about our seats and BO numbers, nobody will save us.

We have to do content-driven cinema.

‘Dhruva’ has been produced his uncle Allu Aravind under Geetha Arts. He added that he has been pleading Aravind to make a film with him since the past four years.

“Guess we were waiting for a subject like ‘Thani Oruvan’ to reunite after ‘Magadheera,’” he noted.

“My mom (Surekha) is the happiest when we come together for a film. Now I am happy for her for the film is a success.

Charan had also heaped high praise on the film’s composer Hip Hop Tamizha. “He has given a fantastic background score and he is just 25 years old.

I don’t think I would have achieved what he had at his age. He has a bright future ahead and I’d like to work with him again.

Meanwhile…
Charan on Saturday has announced that the pre-release event of his Megastar dad Chiranjeevi’s 150th film, ‘Khaidi No 150’ will take place in Vijayawada on January 4.

Mega heroes—Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun, Sai Dharam Tej, Varun Tej and Allu Sirish—besides a bevy of noted faces from the industry are expected to grace the event.
