Girls have to change their surname post marriage or they are considered to be breaking traditions, a norm still followed in the 21st century. Questioning this, Culture Machine has released a thought-provoking video titled ‘The Last Name’, the second in their ‘Mother and Daughter’ series on their channel Blush.
Blush released a statement, “Even today, when we see women being shunned because they choose to use their maiden name post marriage; it is heart-wrenching. It is disturbing to see that we have moved ahead in all fields of life and still choose to follow these norms set by society. With this video and series, we want to bring out what’s unheard and unsaid, between mothers and daughters and how important those conversations are.”
