Having dabbled with different roles ranging from a gangster to a naval officer, Akshay Kumar, for the first time, will be seen as a lawyer in his forthcoming film ‘Jolly LLB 2’. Written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, the courtroom comedy is the sequel to ‘Jolly LLB’ (2013).

“I saw the first part and I liked it, so getting an opportunity to star in the sequel was a lucky thing. Moreover, it is a role (lawyer) that I have hitherto played, so that gave me the extra fizz to be part of the project,” exclaimed Akshay on why he starred in the second version.

For someone who is tipped as an ‘action king’, how challenging was it to play a subdued role. “I did not prepare myself for the role much, but believed in the director’s preparation. I just followed his instructions. He had all the case files and had a perfect understanding on how a courtroom should look like,” said the ‘Khiladi’ star who was in Hyderabad on Saturday to promote the film.

Dealing with lawyers, judiciary and courts, etc., in real life generally involves duping. So was there any change in the way he saw life after working on the film? The 49-year-old explained, “There are good and bad people in every profession. I have friends who are lawyers and they are doing well. Since the plot was inspired by a real life incident, I was only trying to understand the logics of the case.”

Did he find any loopholes in the judiciary system while looking at the part? “The film is neither a take on judiciary nor it will depict the bottlenecks in the system. I play a struggling lawyer who wants to become famous. I stuck to my role. I guess people still believe in the judiciary, but the delay in getting the verdict could be distressing. I feel that’s because the cases are more and the judges aren’t many.”

Co-starring Huma Qureshi and Saurabh Shukla, the film will open in cinemas on February 10.
