The 36-year-old was at the centre of a fan campaign to get filmmakers to cast her as the superhero for an upcoming standalone film. However, the role in the 2019 project ultimately went to Brie Larson.

"No, it wasn't meant to be. I had meetings with Marvel but I don't know if it was for 'Captain Marvel' specifically. I don't like playing the hero anyway - it's boring," Sackoff told.

Sackoff thinks the fan campaign ended up pushing the role further away from her grasp. "They don't work. No executive wants to do what the masses tell them to. They always go for the unexpected because they all want to be the hero that saves the series," she said.
