Move over chicken Baba Sehgal’s “Chicken Fried Rice” rap. Taking his love for food to the masses, city-based Pranav Chaganty’s rap song about pani puri is ruling the internet; the video has over a lakh views in only four days.
The song is of two minutes duration and it highlights the essence of people eating pani puri on the road side with a touch of Telangana slang.
Speaking to The Local, Chaganty, 26-year-old lad says, “It the only dish which almost every Indian loves. In order to touch reality I decided to make a rap on something that people could attract to. And I am surprised by the response I received for this song.”
The song is directed by Sriharsha; Sekhar Boon and Jones Katru are directors of photography. It is edited by Raviteja Nannimala and the music is by Rajesh Raj. Mixing and mastering is done by Satish Kumar.
Being a B-tech graduate from Electrical department and after working for the Indian Navy for a few years, Chaganty realised that his love and happiness is associated only with music. Soon, he dropped his job and decided to make a name for himself in music. As of now he made 10 rap songs.
“If I am in a good mood, it hardly takes me an hour to write the lyrics and maximum two days to compose, shoot and edit it. It all depends on your interest and dedication towards your work that ultimately brings the success,” shares the singer.
“I decided to choose the path that is less followed. It is the best decision I have ever made, because there are hardly and rappers from the city,” he adds. “People when they hear the word ‘rap’, they mistake it to be the Western style and think it has originated from there. But, it all began in India during ancient times when the great poets penned their work.
I love the way they wrote, that kick in it is what I wanted to create in my work too,” he shares. “I want to bring out the past beauty that is forgotten and recreate it in my own style,” he says and shares that “Sitaramasastri”, Indian lyricist of Telugu cinema is the one who inspired him the most. The youngster teaches music and guitar in schools across the city. His next rap song about the IPL is almost ready and will be launched soon.
