Hyderabad: Usually, national awards are meant mostly for off-beat Telugu films, but the 64th national awards breaks this notion for good. Since all the three films ‘Pellichoopulu’ (Best Feature Films in Regional Languages), ‘Santhamanam Bhavathi’ (Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment) and Special Jury award for ace actor Mohanlal for his scintillating performance in Telugu film ‘Janatha Garage’ impressed awards jury as well as regular film viewers.

“The national award surely came as a pleasant surprise, but it’s like a double whammy for me and my team since it first struck gold at the box-office and now bagged coveted award. So it’s time for celebrations,” said Raj Kandukuri who produced Pellichoopulu. “I knew that we had a winner on hand as soon as director Tharun Bhasker narrated the story to me and as they say rest was history. Giving me confidence to promote young filmmakers with refreshing ideas,” he said.
