Scorching scenes to heat up screens this summer

Despite actor Sumanth’s adult comedy ‘Dana Karna’ bombing at the box-office, the craze for sex comedies in Tollywood hasn’t died yet. Instead this summer, few films will cater to the baser instincts of the masses.

Already, the trailer of `Babu Baga Busy’ (remake B-town hit film Hunterrr) has generated enough hype among youngster and masses as Avasaravala is seen as a casanova and romances three hot girls Misti, Tejaswi and Srimukhi and actor-filmmaker describes it as a `coming-of-age’ Telugu movie. Before summer viewers could relax, another bold film “Fashion Designer’s/o Ladies Tailor, is all set to scorch the screens in mid-May.

“It’s the right time for introducing adult comedies in Telugu,” says producer Madhura Sreedhar, who roped in Sumanth Ashwin and three pretty damsels Anisha, Manali and Manasa to play the lead. “In exploring varied genres, Tollywood is lagging behind Bollywood by 20 years, so it’s time for us to catch up with them at least in adult comedies. And also Gen X viewers are a matured lot and can digest an adult comedy made within permissible limits,” he adds.

Earlier, sex comedies like `Oka Romantic Crime Katha’ and `Guntur Talkies” did manage to set cash registers ringing but films like Jyothilaxmi bombed, so sex doesn’t always sell. “We should welcome adult comedies since remaking B-town film Hunterrr is a bold step for the actor and the team. However, success of adult comedies largely lies in the hands of the director since there’s a thin line between adult comedies and B-grade movies.

Telugu audiences are also bored with mass-masala entertainers and slapstick comedies, so sex comedies will come as a breath of fresh air. In fact, I saw ladies and children enjoying watching a Hindi sex comedy in Hindi recently, so if our Telugu viewers are game for it, the success of these films will pave the way for more such films in future,” concludes director Chandra Siddharth.
