Defying the age-barrier and the notion that 30-plus actresses have a short shelf life, pretty damsels Anushka, Shriya Saran, Nayantara and Trisha continue to rule the roost and are much-in-demand. Commanding hefty pay-cheques of Rs 1 crore to Rs 2.5 crore per film, these actresses are giving the younger starlets such as Shruti Haasan and Tammannah, a run for their money, courtesy their fitness, looks and professionalism.
Anushka in particular has managed to retain her stardom despite recent duds like ‘Size Zero’. The ‘Arundhati’ girl shed 20 kilos for her elegant role of Devasena in ‘Baahubali 2’ and her posters have evoked a tremendous response. “Anushka is looking majestic and stunning in the role of Devasena. Similarly, she breathed life into the role of `Arundhati’ and `Rudrama Devi’ and carved a niche for herself. Apart from looking gorgeous, she is one the most talented actresses down south. She is a class apart and her charisma is everlasting,” says producer Kumar Chowdary.
Similalrly, pretty actress Shriya Saran bounced back in splendid fashion with `Gautamiputra Satakarni’ and silenced her detractors who had almost written her off after duds like ‘Pavitra’. “We wanted a mature actress since it was a very powerful role and she did justice to it,” says director Krish. The actress has signed another big-ticket film opposite Balakrishna since her svelte looks and talent were factored in by director Puri Jagannath.
Meanwhile, another 30-plus actress Nayantara is making waves with author-backed roles in films like `Mayuri’ and `Dora’. “Nayantara ’s charisma is intact and she is very much in the reckoning. In fact, her fan following is growing by the day,” says producer C Kalyan who minted money at the box-office with spooky film `Mayuri’. “It was Nayantara’s film all the way and she did a fabulous job. She is a great mix of beauty and talent,” he adds. And completing the list is Trisha who still looks as svelte and charming as ever.
“Trisha always looked younger than her age since she is a fitness freak and follows a strict diet regimen. She did films with stars like Balakrishna and Dhanush and is a much sought-after actress in Kollywood and Telugu,” says a source from Chennai. Apart from their female-centric movies, producer N Padmini attributes their demand to the unwillingness of younger girls to act opposite senior stars of Tollywood.
“These actresses will be in demand for few more years as young actresses are reluctant to work with 50-plus Telugu stars like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh,” says Padmini which means these actresses can continue to smile their ways to the bank.
