Mohan Krishna Indraganti is brilliant with pen. His flair for puns and quick repartee is seen in all his films. While he is consistent in his dialogues, the same cannot be said about the storylines he chooses to make into films.

Riding high on the success of ‘Gentleman’ Mohan Krishna chose a screwball comedy for his next outing. ‘Ami Thumi’ which has a wafer-thin plot and the director banked on his prowess as dialogue writer and performances of lead cast to pull off a spectacle.

The movie is all about two couples (Sesh and Eesha, Srinivas and Aditi) trying to win their love despite odds (read parents). Their fortunes are thrown in a mix, when Sri Chilipi (‘Vennela’ Kishore) enters into their lives. This leads to a series of farcical events culminating in a happy ending.

There isn’t much of a role for Sesh, Srinivas and Eesha to play, though they are the leads. The movie rests completely on the shoulders of ‘Vennela’ Kishore and he pulls off his act with aplomb. His comic timing is on spot and tickles your funny bones.

The comedian is in top form of late and his ups an ante in this film. One can safely say that after Brahmanandam, the industry has found a comedian, who can carry a film on his shoulders. For a movie that is just over two hours, it starts on a slow note until we see Kishore on the screen and from then the narration goes on a breakneck pace.

The director uses ‘Breaking the fourth wall’ technique, in which the actors talks directly to audience, to introduce the lead characters but the attempt misfires as the scene leading to it looks contrived. Mohan Krishna scores big time as a dialogue writer.

“Every KG you are crazy”, “Nenu ninnu ninnuga ishtapadatanu ‘Nun’nuga ishtapadanu,” “Logical ga matladamante zoological ga matladutunnav” and “Kallu taagi… ade organic scotch” and the like leaves audience in splits. The movie is strictly for the sensibilities of audience in A centres and it remains to be seen, how it fares in B and C centres.
