Sterling Brown can’t believe his luck!

Emmy award winning actor Sterling K Brown currently stars in ‘This is Us’, a Golden Globe and SAG award nominated series. The star who has acted in shows such as ‘Supernatural’, ‘Person of Interest’, ‘Masters of Sex’, ‘The Mentalist’, ‘Castle’ and ‘Criminal Minds’ chatted about being nominated at the Emmys this year for “This Is Us” that premiered in India on Star World on Monday.

“It happens in your sleep,” Brown divulged about when he reflects on the breakthrough year he’s had as an actor. “I’ll think about how this whirlwind has sort of swept up from ‘O.J’ to now ‘This is Us’ to having three films to be able to shoot during the hiatus. And it feels good. You don’t know if this point whether this point in your career is ever going to come. You’re happy just working. You’re working consistently on things that people enjoy both critically and popularly.”

On being asked about the moment when his category came up and the nominees were announced, he remembers talking himself through that split second in time, “Whatever happens Brown, celebrate! Celebrate for your cast mates. I had two other cast mates nominated for this. There were two other people from FX nominated. So, when they called my name, I think my soul jumped outside of my body and I almost passed out.”

“I remember my wife’s face, hugging Cuba (Gooding) and walking up to the stage really slowly, because I can remember many women face planting. Thankfully I didn’t have a train!” he joked. “I remember seeing folks stand up. And it takes your breath away for a second when you get that kind of recognition from your peers. People whose work that you have respected for years and years and years, they stood up and said ‘Welcome.'” It was awesome!

Talking about ‘This is Us’, he found it special. Brown recalled telling Sarah Paulson, “I think I found what I want to do right away” and she said, “Go get it!” “It was a no-brainer. Dan Fogelman is a genius”, he quipped. “He makes you laugh out loud and he makes you weep. If I had such an experience just reading this. Hopefully, when people see it, they’ll have a similar experience.” Brown plays the popular role of Randall Pearson on the heart-tugging drama that’s also nominated for the ‘Outstanding Drama Series’.
