Rebellious Arjun Reddy off to a flying start

Undoubtedly, gen-next star Vijay Devarakonda has returned with a bang as his latest release ‘Arjun Reddy’ set the box-office on fire. According to trade sources, the intense love story drew sensational openings on the strength of his name as it grossed more than Rs 5 crore in three days and on the way to become a blockbuster.

Agreed that ‘Pellichoopulu’ was his maiden hit as a solo hero, but Vijay Devarakonda has become a bankable star with his latest offering. “Truly, Vijay showcased his acting brilliance as a rebellious but still an honest doctor who openly admits his addiction to drugs and drinking to become the most lovable persona onscreen,’’ says producer Raj Kandukurri, who missed to make this film.

“I was fascinated with this amazing and path-breaking script by Sandeep Reddy, but couldn’t make it as I had two films on hand at the time,” he points out. However, he hails it as a cult movie and a trendsetter of sorts. “Honesty of the protoganist is the USP of this love story and kudos to producer-director for dishing out a trendsetting entertainer to shake box-office records,” he adds.

He also believes that days of predictable heroes have gone for good, “Beating up thugs to pulp is no more heroism, rather honest and vulnerable heroes will score big. New generation viewers are smart enough to differentiate between chalk and cheese,’ he concludes. Nevertheless, Vijay has a become the talk-of-the town and his career moved a few notches up.
