Female-centric movies are jinxed for divas?

It looks like leading Telugu superstars show reluctance to work with actresses who appeared in female-centric movies. Apparently, careers of heroines who did female-oriented films has been on the downhill, pushing them to do item numbers or pick other language movies while losing base in T-town.

From gorgeous Charmme to Bhumika and Trisha to Anjali and down to Priyamani, the glam divas who ruled the roost, lost their way after doing author-backed roles. Is it mere coincidence or a bad career move? “It is a mix of both,” says director Meher Ramesh, who feels that happening actresses should avoid doing female-centric movies, to stay in the reckoning or else their career would reach a dead-end. Because female-driven films are made once in blue moon in T-town,’ he adds.

Realising it as a detrimental move, reigning actress Shruti Haasan walked out of socio-fantasy ‘Sanghamitra’, while her peer Kajal shunned a multi-lingual film with director P Vasu recently, to spare their dates for top stars. “Barring Anushka and Nayantara, most of the actresses who acted in female-centric films have lost their charm and offers too.

Shruti and Kajal have done the right thing and extended their career span, instead of falling prey to fancy pay cheques or the charm of carrying a film on their shoulders, which would have shortened their stint,’ says producer Kumar Choudury.

It seems to be true as Charmee lost out chances with big heroes(except for doing item numbers) after appearing in female- centric movies from ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’ to ‘Kavya’s Diary’. Followed by Bhumika who worked with Pawan and Mahesh Babu but lost her way after ‘Anasuya’, while Trisha (Nayaki), Anjali (Chitrangadha), Priyamani (Kshetram, Charulatha) were also left with not many big offers in their hands or set to tie the knot.

Actually, male stars have a committed fan following, while female stars are not assured crowd pullers? “When these glam divas take on male stars at the box-office, it puts them on par with them, which irks some top-league stars.
