Newly-elected president of Telangana Cinema Industry Employess Federation, Prem Raj says that the body will work closely with Andhra and Chennai-born cine workers. ‘We would like to work together in good harmony and in friendly atmosphere since everybody is working for their livelihood,’ says writer-director Prem Raj, who admits that there was a delay in forming the body.
“It took more than two years to get the union into shape,” he admits. On his initial involvement in forming the workers union. “It is true that I was making efforts to form this body and talking to workers of 24-crafts. Meanwhile, I got an opportunity to make ‘Sharanam Gachchami’. Nevertheless, I am back at the helm of affairs and will lead the 2,000-odd members with lot of positivity and professionalism,’ he points out.
He claims that thousands of aspiring dancers, stunt men, junior artistes, carpenters, make-up artistes and production managers arrive from 31 districts to showcase their talent and eke out a living. “There are lot of talented artistes and technicians who are around looking for opportunities and we will help them to realise their dreams by getting them some work, sooner than later,” he adds.
The writer-director has been in the forefront in trying to restore the distinct identity of Telangana cinema, which has almost gone into oblivion. “The sensational success of Telangana-centric films like ‘Fidaa’ and ‘Arjun Reddy’ has redefined mainstream Telugu cinema.
Definitely, winds are changing direction and we are glad about it,’ he opines. Similarly, he is looking for a bright future for thousands of cine workers in TS, ‘it is just round the corner, we are hopeful and confident.’
